The list of work permits in the UAE includes 12 types, as determined by Federal Decree-Law No. (33) of 2021 regulating labor relations, which officially entered into force on February 2 of this year. These permits regulate the process of employing nationals and expatriates in all establishments of the private sector in the country. It includes a “work permit to recruit a worker from outside the UAE” which allows establishments registered with the Ministry to recruit a worker from outside the country; “Transfer work permit,” under which foreign worker can transfer from one establishment registered with the Ministry to another; “a work permit for a resident on a family sponsorship”, according to which those who are on their relatives’ sponsorship are employed to work in an establishment registered with the Ministry. According to ” Emarat Al Youm”.

This is in addition to a “temporary work permit” under which a worker is employed for a job whose nature of execution or completion requires a specified period in one of the establishments registered with the Ministry;  A “one-mission work permit”, which is granted to one of the establishments registered with the Ministry wishing to recruit in a worker from abroad to complete a temporary work or a specific project with a fixed term; and the “part-time work permit” which allows establishments registered with the Ministry to employ a worker under a part-time work contract, so that his working hours or working days are less than his full-time counterparts. The worker may work for more than one employer after obtaining a permit to that effect from the Ministry.

The permits also included a “Juvenile Work Permit” under which those who reached the age of 15 years and did not exceed 18 years of age are employed in an establishment registered with the Ministry; A “Student Training and Employment Permit” which allows establishments registered with the Ministry to train or employ a student in the country who has reached the age of 15, according to specific controls and conditions; A “UAE/GCC national permit” which allows establishments registered with the Ministry to employ nationals or nationals of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf; A “a golden visa holder permit” which is granted upon request of an establishment registered with the Ministry to employ a worker within the country who holds golden residence visa.

There are also a “National Trainee Permit” which is granted to establishments registered with the Ministry wishing to train a national according to his approved academic qualification;  “Freelance Permit” which is granted to individuals wishing to engage in freelance independently (on their self-residency for foreign individuals) without the sponsorship of a specific employer or entity in the country, provided that the is a valid work contract, through which the natural person achieves a direct income by providing his services for a specific period of time or for a specific performance or providing a specific service, whether for individuals or establishments, and so that this natural person is in no way a worker for these individuals or those establishments.
